One of the most memorable moments in sports in 2019 was the Toronto Raptors winning the NBA Championship over the Golden State Warriors back on June 13.
If you were around when the Raptors first entered the league back in 1995 (like me), it was almost unthinkable that Toronto would ever get to the pinnacle of the NBA. We lived through a 20 year span where the majority of players couldn’t wait to leave at the very first opportunity (ie. Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady) so it almost seemed impossible the Raptors could ever compile a roster that would win an NBA championship.
After Kawhi Leonard’s improbable shot that bounced off the rim for what seemed like an eternity against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Raptors has the sense of a team of destiny.
Heading into game six against Golden State, I had a feeling that tonight was the night so I packed up my video camera and headed downtown and ended up walking the streets of Toronto until 5am capturing the sights and sounds of Raptors fans celebrating their first NBA championship.
I had a live periscope going as well that had thousands of people from all over the world watching. You can check that out here: https://www.pscp.tv/w/1zqJVabdWDPGB
Here is my YouTube video of the streets of Toronto following the Raptors win.
