The Liberty Flames became the first team to clinch their spot in the NCAA tournament in very 2021 fashion.
Liberty had an outstanding season going to 22-5 and due to a few technicalities they’ve already earned their spot in March Madness ahead of the Atlantic Sun Conference championship game on Sunday.
Liberty will face North Alabama in the ASUN final who is not eligible for postseason tournament play so Liberty by default will represent the ASUN in March Madness.
North Alabama transitioned from division two up to D1 back in 2018-19 and teams are not eligible for postseason play until they have completed four seasons of games.
Liberty was the No.1 seed heading into the ASUN tournament so there is some justice in them earning the tournament bid before actually beating North Alabama.
