Austin Peay will leave the Ohio Valley Conference

Austin Peay State University has announced it will leave the OVC in 2022.

The Ohio Valley Conference is one of the more competitive mid-major conferences in college basketball and is responsible for producing recent NBA stars like Ja Morant (Murray State), Cameron Payne (Murray State) and Robert Covington (Tennessee State).

However, they will be losing one of their members coming July 2022.

Austin Peay has announced they’ll be leaving the OVC at the end of this season and will compete next year in the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) instead.

OVC commissioner Beth DeBauche said, “We have received notification from Austin Peay that they will be leaving the OVC effective June 30, 2022. We appreciate their many contributions to the conference over the years and are committed to providing their student-athletes with an exemplary Championships experience this year.We are clearly in a time of change for intercollegiate athletics, and the Ohio Valley Conference embraces this moment, committed to the institutions and student-athletes whom we serve and confident in our future.”

Austin Peay’s last appearance in the NCAA tournament came in 2016 when they won the OVC tournament as the No.8 seed.
