Lincoln Prep guard Dawson Matsell is starting to make NCAA schools take notice early in the season.
When you walk into the gym, 6’4 guard Dawson Matsell isn’t going to catch the attention of many scouts and coaches. He’s not flashy and he doesn’t spend his warm up routine posing for Instagram pictures and trying to make dunk reels.
However, five minutes into watching Matsell play and you’ll quickly realize that this guy is an NCAA player.
The Class of 2023 Matsell is from Hamilton, ON and he plays in the OSBA which is the best prep league in Canada. He has quickly established himself as the best player on Lincoln Prep ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Matsell is an elite three-point shooter with a very quick release. He’s 6’4 but plays much bigger with his willingness to attack the basket and take on any defender. He has a nifty bag of tricks that allows him to score in different ways.
He can also defend at a very high level and is capable of guarding players much bigger than him because he doesn’t shy away from contact. He also has deceptive speed and is tough as nails.
As a Class of 2023 recruit, Matsell will no doubt begin to receive interest from NCAA programs and the top end USports schools.
Unless he has a growth spurt over the next two years, Matsell will be attractive to mid-major NCAA basketball teams with his ability to play multiple positions at the college level and his elite shooting ability.
Here is an exclusive interview and highlights with Dawson Matsell from Sept 18-2021 following his game vs Orangeville Prep.
