Arkansas State freshman Norchad Omier had a season for the ages in the Sun Belt Conference.

The Sun Belt Conference handed out their postseason awards for the 2021-22 college basketball season with Arkansas State freshman Norchad Omier taking home both conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the year.

Omier is from Nicaragua and led the Sun Belt with a .647 field goal percentage and 12 RPG. He averaged 17.2 PPG (3rd in the conf.) while also ranking among the Top 10 in the conference in blocks per game (2nd, 2.1) and steals per game (7th, 1.6).

Omier became the first Sun Belt player since Mike Wells of Western Kentucky in 2003-04 to win both the Player and Defensive Player of the Year. He also competes internationally for Nicaragua. Although listed as a freshman, he did play last year as well for Arkansas State.
